Dry Skin or Dehydrated Skin? Know the Difference!

You should know that there’s a big difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin. A lot of people do not know how to determine which is which and the reason why some of your beauty products seem not to work is that you’re maybe using the wrong product.

Today, we will talk about the difference between the two. At the end of this blog, you’ll be able to determine if what are you experiencing is dry skin or dehydrated skin.

Dry Skin

Is a skin type and you have had this since you are born. It means that your skin lacks natural oils. When you have dry skin it is not just on your face, you also experience dryness on your hand, scalp, legs, and other parts of your body.

Some of the signs that you have dry skin are a scaly appearance, white flakes, redness, and irritation. This happens due to the lack of a protective barrier comprised of oil.

If you have dry skin, make sure to always use a moisturizer that contains oil- or cream-based products daily.

Dehydrated Skin

This is a skin condition when your skin lacks water. Skin dehydration causes can be one of the following: makeup, diet, incorrect product use, and weather.

Anyone can have dehydrated skin, even those who have oily and combination types of skin. Some of the signs of dehydrated skin are premature signs of aging, wrinkles, darker under-eye circles, and loss of elasticity.

For dehydrated skin, oral hydration is a must so make sure to include in your diet water-rich foods like watermelon, strawberries, and cucumber. Also, always carry a water mist.

Now that you know the difference between the two.

The best ingredients to use if you have dry and dehydrated skin were products with ceramide and hyaluronic acid.

If you have dry skin, use products that are lipid-rich for barrier support while if you only have dehydrated skin use water-rich products for skin hydration.
